Performance World marks start of 2011 Race Season

March 14th, 2011 - With this past weekend's Performance World car show now in the rear-view mirror, the 2011 show & race season is now officially in full swing. Gibson unveiled its new chassis at the show in 2007 and in keeping with the tradition, displayed their freshened-up mount at the show this past weekend. Although Flamboro did not have an official booth at the show, it was well represented by Gary Elliott and Jim Sweers in the vintage modified booth, the Collison clan and former Flamboro regulars Shane Gowan with his OSCAAR and Rob Disher with his Oshweeken Thunder Stock. With only a month remaining until Flamboro's practice day, the count down to Gibson Motorsports' return to the track has begun.

There have been a lot of changes since the team last competed in the 3rd leg of the Grisdale Triple Crown in 2009. Although the car was completely rebuilt by the mid-point of the 2010 season, other responsibilities kept the team from competition. Despite the lack of on-track activity, theteam has been busy with renovations, expanding the race shop into a new 30' X 30' area. With the renovations expected to be complete by mid-Spring, the additional space and exquipment will make it easier to prepare the car. Atwo-poste hoist was purchased from former competitor, Howie Cunningham in the fall and a new tire machine will make changing the American Racer tires much easier. team driver, Scott Gibson has reloacted to Burlington to be much clser to the team's Grimsby, ON headquarters. With a fresh new look, the entire team is looking forward to a return to competition in 2011.

The 2011 schedule is still tentative at this time and will be firmed up closer to the start of the season. The team hopes to compete on a limited schedule at Flamboro Speedway,a s well as select special events at other speedways. 2011 marks Flamboro's 50th and to celbrate, a special invitation goes out to all former racers who have been part of Flamboro's history are invited to attend the Memorial Weekend on Saturday August 20th as special guests of the speedwday. Flamboro will be the place to be this Canada Day weekend, with NASCAR stars Ken Scrader, Sterling Marlin and Jimmy Spencer challenging Ontario's top Thunder Car drivers on Friday, July 1st. The action continues the following night with the second leg of the Grisdale Triple Crown.
