ABOUT
Owned and operated by the father and son duo of Larry and Scott Gibson, the team has a long history of racing throughout Ontario and the North-Eastern United States. Currently, the team is competing on a limited basis in the late model division at Ontario's paved speedways. As the premiere class that competes weekly, the late model division generates the greatest excitement and fan following.
The team's roots can be traced back to the Council of Corvette Clubs where team patriarch Larry Gibson was a favourite to win in slalom and solo events in his race-prepared Corvettes. The desire for a new challenge encouraged Larry to join the Ontario Amateur Racing Club (O.A.R.C) in 1985, where he raced his vintage modified until his retirement from racing in 1990.
After growing up at the race track watching his father compete, Scott's own career began in 1993 racing go-karts with the Niagara Kart Racing Club. After a successful rookie season, Scott became a championship contender in his sophomore year, placing 2nd in the season-long points standings at Merrittville Speedway. After two years competing on dirt, Scott enjoyed considerable success during in 1995 and 1996 in a mini sprint, winning 12 feature races and was voted most sportsman like driver by his peers. Scott's racing career was put on hold after the 1996 season while he attended university.
Gibson Motorsports was re-established in 2004 with Scott's return to racing in the late model division at Flamboo Speedway. Although the team's racing efforts have been limited to a partial schedule each year, Gibson Motorsports has competed against Ontario's top race teams and toughest drivers.
