Returning to the track in 2015

With practice day at Flamboro speedway less than a month away, the team is hard at work preparing the late model for a return to competition in 2015. A lot has changed since contact on the first lap of qualifying ended our season at Oktoberfest at the end of the 2012 season. As a competitor, it was tough to be on the sidelines for two full seasons but time away from the track was far from uneventful.

2013 was a was a life changing year with a new wife, a new house and countless hours of home renovations that continued through the 2014 season. Blake Robert Gibson was born in March 2015 and in a few years, he may become the 3rd generation to see competition from behind the wheel of a Gibson Motorsports entry.

Plans for the 2015 season are to compete on a limited basis at Flamboro Speedway in preparation for joining the APC tour in 2016. However, this will require a significant change in equipment as the APC series will not allow built engines past the 2015 season. For our team, this will require a significant investment in our ride, or an upgrade to a different chassis that is already compliant with series rules.

We have also filed an entry for the Ontario 1500 Motorsports Adventure in September. The 1500 is a 7-day automotive tour of South/Central Ontario consisting of 1500 km of transit stages on public roads and 23 timed motorsport competitions held on closed courses across time attack, auto slalom and drag racing disciplines. We will compete in a 1966 Pro-Touring Studebaker which, to date, only has 50 miles on the odometer. When not competing with the late model, we will be at a parking lot or track somewhere, working out the new car bugs from the Stude.
